Ongoing:  Support for Ukrainian families

Since December 2022 Fenwick United Church has been actively involved in helping newly arrived Ukrainian families settle into their new life in Canada. We have worked collaboratively with Ukrainian Canadian Congress - Niagara Branch, as well as other local churches - Fonthill United Church, Pelham Community Church, Wesley United Church, and Central United Church.

This has included finding apartments, collecting and delivering furniture and household items, helping to find doctors and dentists, schools for children, advice and help with navigating financial institutions, financial support, as well as emotional support by giving them a community of new friends where they are always welcome.  So far we have been involved in helping, to various extent, eight Ukrainian families.

If you would like to join us in this ministry, please contact us! Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Collecting Milk Bags

The exterior milk bags we collect are making a difference. Please keep drying, saving and putting them into the box in the kitchen.

From one of the people who makes them into mats:

"I was at the Smithville Legion today picking up a huge amount of milk bags (all the Legions got together and collected bags for our group specifically). They collect bags for us, we make them into mats and bring them back to the Legion (and other organizations). The Legion has been giving the mats to another group who donated the mats to our homeless vets. So when I went to pick up today, I was asking how our mats are being received. Kathey said they are so appreciated and the need is increasing. She added that the police and EMTs are now taking our mats and giving them out to homeless they see. She said, please keep making them."

“But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?” - 1 John 3:17
